Access is expanding. As of June 26th, Granite Arch is open to anyone who had a membership in good standing (active or frozen) or a punch card at the time of our closure in March. Memberships include EFT, 6 month and annual prepaid and one month.
If you haven’t been in yet, please make sure you read all the following before coming on down.
It is imperative that we all work together to follow these interim rules and behavioral guidelines established in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Our hope is to see Granite Arch fully operational as soon as possible. Your cooperation in adhering to these rules and guidelines will help us move closer to that reality.
1. Climbing gyms are high-risk areas
Indoor climbing gyms are high contact areas that present the risk of contamination and infection. Our staff have and will continue to follow protocols and recommendations that reduce risk, but we cannot eliminate that risk entirely.
2. Feeling unwell?
We ask that if you feel ill or think you have been exposed to COVID-19 to please refrain from coming to the gym.
3. Monitoring for symptoms
As per California standards we will be screening staff for symptoms and taking their temperature at the beginning of each shift. Additionally, each person that comes into the gym will have to verify that they have not experienced COVID-19 symptoms or have been knowingly exposed to the virus within the last 14 days.
4. Wash your hands
Look for sanitation stations located throughout the gym. Please wash your hands before, during, and after your climbing session. All climbers will be asked to wash their hands at our washing station before coming inside.
5. Masks are required
In compliance with the new California Department of Public Health mandate, everyone in the gym must wear a face covering at all times. Please come prepared with a face covering that can stay secured/be worn while you climb.
6. We are practicing physical distancing
In order to allow climbers to keep 6 feet between one another, we are limiting the total number of people allowed in the gym to 50 people at any one time. In addition, we are suspending all classes, programs, and tests. We will start by only allowing members in the gym—unfortunately, this means no guests. We will not be allowing punch card holders or the general public in at this time.
7. Climbing zones
Climbing areas have been divided into zones to facilitate physical distancing. Maps of the zones and the corresponding climber capacities for each can be found throughout the gym. The Boulder Room will be limited to 20 climbers at a time and only to those climbers who are 12 and older (if you are a young Team member you can reach out to Coach Joe or email Theresa at email@example.com to request access privileges).
8. Areas of the gym closed until further notice
Areas in the gym that will be closed until further notice include Adventure Village, weight room, campus board walls and the sitting/lounge area and the party room.
9. Climbing time will be limited to 2-hour sessions
Wristbands with the time you entered the facility will be used to monitor this, and all climbers must check in and check out of their 2-hour session at the front counter. This means anyone and everyone entering the gym must wait to be checked in. We ask that you not proceed past the front counter, whether entering or exiting, until cleared by a staff person! This will assist us in keeping an accurate count on the number of people in the facility.
10. Unfreezing memberships
We will now be unfreezing memberships! Pre-paid and EFT members can unfreeze starting today, June 22nd, at 4pm and through July 31st. After July 31st all memberships that are still frozen will be cancelled. To unfreeze your membership, members must either come in to the gym or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. When unfrozen, all prepaid six-month and 1 year pre-paid memberships will be extended by the amount of time they were frozen. All EFT members will receive a 15 day credit from their unused March dues in either July or August.
If you have been back in since our re-opening and paid for a session pass(es) or session punch card, that amount will be credited towards your membership dues when you unfreeze as well.
11. Additional things to know
Before you leave your house you’ll want to make sure you have all your gear and a full water bottle, as rentals will be restricted and we are trying to limit the use of our water bottle refill stations. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase, but staff will have to grab the drinks for you. Snacks and food must be eaten outside. Finally, we are currently asking that you leave all your furry friends at home.

Rules and guidelines, along with any updates, will also be posted on our social media, as well as on signs throughout the gym.
